Eat This: Zack Attack at La Victoria

If you live in or frequent East Dallas, you’ve probably driven past La Victoria dozens of times. I regularly turned a blind eye towards it for years before I finally set foot inside. Entering the unassuming building has since proven to be a life-changing (and life-affirming) moment, and I feel comfortable considering my life in two eras: B.L.V and A.L.V. While the entire menu is filled with delicious gems, there is one item in particular that stands above the rest. One item that will make you cry tears of joy at your first bite. One item against which you’ll judge all foods for the rest of your life: the Zack Attack.

The Zack Attack isn’t just a breakfast burrito. It’s THE breakfast burrito, with its eggs, bacon, potatoes, jalapenos, and refried beans. It may seem like there’s a lot going on, but that’s the point of a breakfast burrito. What’s the point of ordering a burrito if it's not filled with as many ingredients as possible? Let’s add some onions in there, then. Do you want it with cheese? Of course, you do.

The Zack Attack is perfectly seasoned, and the distribution of fillings is masterful. Instead of following the Chipotle model of short and fat, La Victoria opts for long and thin to provide an equal eating experience where every bite is as good the last. You probably won’t realize how important this phenomenon is until you try a perfectly-distributed burrito.

By now, you can probably tell I’m super into the Zack Attack. So much that I conveniently “forgot” to take pictures of my burrito the first time I went, so I just HAD to return a couple of days later to get another. I know what you’re thinking: “Damn, Gefen, two burritos? How can you afford to eat like a king?” The answer is simple: the Zack Attack is $4. That’s right. This magnificent, transcendent burrito is less than five bucks. That’s like a dollar more than one of the gross breakfast burritos you philistines order down the street at Sonic. Plus, the Zack Attack is way more filling. At a price this nice, you have no reason not to order this life-changing breakfast.

At the end of the day, the Zack Attack is terrific, inexpensive, and if you claim to be a fan of breakfast burritos, you really owe it to yourself to try it. You’ll also be supporting a local business, which is becoming increasingly important. If you’re not sold on La Victoria by now, may God have mercy on your soul, and no, I’m not being dramatic.
