February may have been a bit of a slow month, but Dallas’ restaurant news is starting to heat up and we’re here for it. Check out what just opened and what to watch, from a sexy secret cocktail den to the biggest neighborhood restaurant in town.

What: This sleek new cocktail den is tucked away in the back room of the Asian restaurant Musume in the Dallas Arts District. Patrons can enter through the side door on Crockett Street, or an escorted trip through the kitchen. Once inside, patrons can enjoy a full sake menu and plenty of Asian-inspired cocktails in a gorgeous setting that looks straight out of a David Lynch film.
Where: 2330 Flora Street
When: Go ahead and make your Musume reservations and plan to stay awhile — this cocktail den is open now.

What: The former Blind Butcher spot has a new tenant. With speakeasy-reminiscent decor, an emphasis on comfort food (sign us up for that Housemade Pastrami Sandwich) and minimal-ingredient cocktails, we have a feeling that this spot will be added to our dinner rotation.
Where: 1919 Greenville Avenue
When: This newly-opened spot is serving up dinner five nights a week from 5 PM to 2 AM, with happy hour kicking off 5-7 PM. Brunch is in the plans. Get there early, the wait is already getting aggressively long for prime time.

There’s also a Whiskey Bible for bourbon novices and enthusiasts to peruse, containing back stories and tasting notes for every spirit available.

With an aesthetic that evokes recording studios from the 1970s, complete with 8-tracks and vinyl, this lounge has a ton of handcrafted cocktails to choose from. Check it out next to Laurel Tavern Thursday to Sunday 7 PM to midnight.
Where: 1922 Greenville Ave
When: They opened last weekend.

What: Deep Ellum is gaining an oyster bar! And if your lunch or dinner companion doesn’t care much for coastal fare, they will also be serving up pub fare like wings, build-your-own burgers, charcuterie boards, and salads and soups. Be sure to peruse the giant beer list of 55 local brews, along with an 'approachable' wine list for oyster pairings.

CLOSINGS

  • Deep Ellum is down a taco/poke bowl shop. Bowls & Tacos announced its closure on Facebook, with owner Sam Wynne adding that “good food made and served by a good crew with free parking in Deep Ellum can only get you so far.” We’ll miss their queso most of all.

OTHER NEWS…

  • Greenville Avenue fixture The Grape has announced that they will no longer be serving brunch. But not to worry, the formerly brunch-exclusive burger will still be available on Sundays and Mondays. Whew.

  • As of February 19, the Fairmont Hotel Dallas will become the only hotel with a dedicated on-site kosher kitchen in downtown. The kosher menu includes canapés and hors d’oeuvres, salads, mains, and a dessert menu.

  • Keep your eyes peeled for Candytopia, a candy shop/art exhibit that's been a smash in cities such as San Francisco, New York, and Atlanta. They’ve been a little mum on the specific deets, but Teresa Gubbins has heard that it’ll be opening this summer in The Hill.
