Weekend Guide: Burnt Orange vs. Crimson and Cream Edition

It’s TX/OU weekend (or OU/TX if you’re a heathen) but that doesn’t mean that you have to be tailgating and partying in your gameday best to have fun this weekend. What matters is that you go outside and enjoy this weather.

Saturday, October 6 | Cotton Bowl

Texas looks okay this year, Oklahoma hasn’t missed a beat with Kyler Murray stepping in for Baker Mayfield, and the whole fairgrounds will be bumping Saturday no matter which way this game goes. Of course, this weekend is just as much about the parties. Here are a couple:

Saturday, October 6 | South Side Ballroom

Ideally, this show would be in the middle of January on a cold, rainy day. Early fall at the South Side Ballroom will have to suffice for the brooding Ohio band and lead singer Matt Berninger’s underlying melancholy. Prepare for a healthy dose of literary white guy angst and ennui. It’s more fun than it sounds (unless it sounds very much not fun at all, in which case, also accurate.)

Saturday, October 6 | Sundance Square

Not feeling all the college football festivities? Head west and find your calling at Flying Saucer Fort Worth’s 13th Annual BeerFeast at Sundance Square. With more than 120 beers from all over the world (i.e. Belgium, Germany and Japan) plus food and general festivities. Plus absolutely zero college football. Just beer.

Sunday, October 7| Main Street Garden

If you haven’t registered to vote, then here’s an opportunity to do so while enjoying bands including Spoon and The Polyphonic Spree. Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke will also be in attendance with Texas governor candidate Lupe Valdez plus local candidates including Colin Allred and Eddie Bernice Johnson. Get ready to register, unite and vote.

Sunday, October 7 | Favor The Kind

We love a good deal as much as anyone, so of course Favor The Kind’s Swap & Flea has our interest. Time to go hunting for a bargain as they set up outside of their Henderson shop with home goods, apparel, footwear, display furniture and more, all at steep discounts.
