Weekend Guide: Oh hi, 2019

Has everyone recovered from New Year’s Eve? It’s always hard to get back in the swing of things for the weekend after a Monday night of going out. It feels like we just were doing things, you know? We have a small (but eclectic) slate of weekend events that will make you a better, more well-rounded individual in the new year.

Friday, January 4 | Granada Theater

Bowie would be turning 72 this year and honestly, it doesn’t feel like it’s already been three years since he passed away. Thin White Dukes, a Bowie cover band, and Panic, a Morrissey tribute band, are combining forces for a birthday bash at Granada Theater complete with a David Bowie costume contest. Suffice to say that you have plenty of options on how to dress up for that.

Sunday, January 6 | Oak Cliff Brewing Co.

We know a lot of y’all are probably in the middle of a pretty serious “Eat Healthy and Exercise More” routine, so we hate to do this to you, but it’s not like we’re not going to talk about a cake and beer pairing flight. Oak Cliff Brewing Co. is teaming up with Crumb & Kettle to really test the old saying that calories don’t count on the weekend.

Saturday, January 5 | Nasher Sculpture Center

We all need more art in our lives, so it’s awfully nice of the Nasher to open up their doors for free. Head over from 11 AM to 1 PM for some family-friendly programming with guest artists Francisco Moreno and Shamsy Roomiani or have a chat with a Nasher educator. 2019 is the year of learning, y’all.

Saturday, January 5 | Toyota Stadium

Okay, so last weekend’s Clemson-Notre Dame matchup was… underwhelming. Thankfully, college football gets one more crack at it in North Texas with the FCS Championship between North Dakota State and Easter Washington. If the NDSU Bison win, it would be their 7th championship in 8 years, which we think is pretty good.
